We took the decision during the summer this year to start closing on a Sunday and I want to give you an insight into why we made this decision. The motor-trade is a difficult industry to work in, especially working in sales as you are expected to be open when people are off their work, this makes the job very unsociable especially when you have young family. I have spend the last 20 + years selling cars and during that time I have worked most Sunday's getting the odd one off and during holidays, the reason....Sunday's were great days for selling, however now, Sunday's aren't that busy, in fact the people you get mostly in on Sunday's are people with very little to do on a Sunday so want to burn some time looking at cars ( nothing wrong with that, we have all done it) or the customer who couldn't make the decision on the Saturday test drive. So by closing Sunday's the Saturday people are now making a decision there and then or waiting until Monday to give us the good news! The three main reasons for closing Sundays are these:- 1. Staff welfare- it's great all getting the same day off, no need to get a call from work on your mobile because you have forgotten to leave details of a handover or deal. Instead of a day off during the week the sales staff now get a Sunday off and they also get a Friday, Saturday & Sunday off once a month! 2. Better communication- if we are all off on the same day, this means we are all here during the week, giving more attention to customers who come in during the week and better communication between us, giving us better service all round! 3. Family- My daughter Laura recently married our Sales Manager Phil, now the problem with that is the fact that Phil covers me when I'm off and visa- versa, which means we are never off at the same time, therefore no family BBQ's at the weekend etc, It also allows Laura to have time off with Phil and have her mum and dad round, so family time! Also if there are any Grandchildren planned in the future (and I'm not saying there are) even more time all together to enjoy as a family. So I apologise in advance if you were planning to come across and see a car on Sunday, but you can see our reasons above and to help you we are happy to take the car to you during the week! Enjoy your weekend.......... as much as we do........... now! Jim | |
